Heat Mat Installer App

A field companion for installers, available on iPhone and Android.

Underneath, it is a connected installer platform. A Flutter interface brings together secure accounts, cloud data, warranty registrations, loyalty rewards, push notifications and the web planner in one consistent mobile experience.

  • Flutter provides one shared interface and codebase for iPhone and Android
  • Firebase Authentication handles registration, login, guest access, persistent sessions, profiles and password recovery
  • Cloud Firestore links each installer to their warranties, saved certificates, loyalty points and reward claims
  • Cloud storage and automated processing support product documents, media and generated warranty PDFs
  • Push notifications keep installers informed, while a secure app-to-web bridge connects the planner and returns its PDFs to the phone

Heat Mat Planner

A specialist planning tool that turns an awkward room shape into a practical underfloor heating system.

React powers the interactive drawing workspace, while Python calculation logic and custom computational geometry turn irregular rooms, angled walls and exclusion zones into usable heating areas. Product rules then generate a practical layout, specification and downloadable output.

  • React keeps the drawing canvas, room dimensions and product choices in sync as the plan changes
  • Custom geometry handles irregular polygons, angled walls, obstacles, exclusion zones and cold spots

Foxy Run

A full side-scrolling runner game that began with a fox, a few obstacles and the dangerous thought: “How hard can it be?”

It now has distinct worlds, animated bosses, hazards, power-ups, collectibles, character customisation, audio and a properly structured game engine underneath it all.

Shopify ecommerce project

Guided product calculators

A specialist ecommerce experience that turns measurements, product rules and awkward room shapes into a confident purchase.

Alongside the wider Shopify build, I created custom underfloor heating and mirror demister calculators. They guide customers through technical choices, calculate what will fit and connect the recommended products directly to the shopping basket.

  • A staged selector distinguishes heating mats for regular rooms from cables suited to irregular spaces and obstacles
  • Customers can enter a known floor area, use room dimensions or draw a custom shape, including areas that must remain unheated
  • Product rules translate usable area into the correct heating kit, quantities, thermostat and compatible accessories
  • The mirror tool accepts dimensions or a drawn polygon, applies voltage and fitting constraints and recommends the best-fitting demister pad
  • Shopify product and cart integration carries the configured result from calculation into a straightforward purchase flow

Small ideas can make a big difference.

Advanced Excel tools

One recent production system contains 93 worksheets, more than 58,000 formulas and over 1,300 defined names. Its calculation engine combines product-specific lookup tables with IF and IFS, INDEX and MATCH, VLOOKUP, text cleansing and error handling to turn dimensions, selections and centralised price data into reliable, automated quotations.

Nearly 100 separate VBA procedures manage the workflow around those calculations. They generate tailored quotation PDFs, create uniquely numbered quote numbers and files, update the data to shared quote logs, react to worksheet changes and prepare personalised Microsoft Outlook HTML emails with CC, BCC, inline imagery and the correct documents attached.

Connected to this is a VBA-powered quote follow-up system. Using stored quotation data, it identifies outstanding quotes that have not progressed to an order and automatically creates and sends tailored, personalised follow-up emails.

The system also includes a comprehensive management reporting feature. Data exported from Sage is transformed into clear pie charts, bar charts and performance reports, including comparisons with previous periods, quarters and years.
